E-mail Print PDF
UBUNTU is a safe, secure, reliable, free distribution of Linux that is immune to virus, spyware, and all the stuff that plagues windows. Ubuntu has 28,352 different programs you can download and use totally free.  If you don't have a cd writer(burner) and you want to jump right in you can use unetbootin to download and install from the internet.

To get the Livecd shiped to you free, or download and burn it now, go get Ubuntu here.  If you downloaded it then burn the .iso file you downloaded to a cd as an image.

Now you have an Ubuntu GNU/LINUX LiveCD, what next >

Put the cd in while you're in windows you'll see a screen that gives you 3 choices.
  1. Demo and full installation from the Livecd (requires rebooting with cd in)

  2. Install inside windows (the first thing we'll cover)

  3. Learn more install from livecd environment

For this tutorial we'll use the 2nd choice and click the install inside windows button.

A window then appears showing you you're options just keep defaults and make up a password then click install. It will take some time (15-45 minutes depending on your computer) then you'll reboot and select(arrow down) UBUNTU as shown here.

After you click finish your computer will reboot. Make sure to arrow down and select UBUNTU to start it instead of windows.

The first thing I do after install is add my local temperature next to the time and change my pointer color and size, here is how to do just that.
